What Happens During Your First Spinal Flow Appointment?

Booking something new can feel a bit awkward.

You might want to come along, but still have a hundred tiny questions running through your head.

What do I wear?

Will I have to explain everything?

What happens in the room?

Is it one-to-one or in a group?

How many sessions will I need?

This guide walks you through what to expect from your first Spinal Flow appointment with Jules.

Before your first session

Before your first appointment, you will be required to complete a full health questionnaire.

This helps Jules understand why you are coming, what you are hoping for and whether there is anything important she needs to know before the session begins.

You do not need to have perfect answers.

You might simply know that you feel stressed, tense, tired or ready to try a different kind of support. That is enough to begin.

What to wear

Wear something comfortable.

You stay fully clothed during a Spinal Flow session, so soft clothing is best. Choose something you can lie down in easily.

Good options include:

  • Harem pants

  • joggers

  • loose trousers

  • a T-shirt

  • a sweatshirt or jumper

  • socks if your feet get cold

Try to avoid anything too tight, stiff or uncomfortable.

You do not need to dress up. This is not that kind of appointment.

What to bring

You do not usually need to bring much.

It can be helpful to bring water, any relevant information Jules has asked for and an open mind.

If you have questions, bring those too. There are no silly questions when you are trying something new.

What happens when you arrive?

When you arrive, Jules will welcome you into the space and explain what will happen.

Jules will fully explain the Spinal Flow Technique, what it is, how it works, what it does, where she will work, what you may feel. You will also undergo posture and Spinal assessments.

This gives you chance to ask questions, share anything important and get a feel for the room.

You will not be rushed into anything.

The aim is for you to feel informed, comfortable and able to take part in a way that works for you.

What happens during the session?

During the session, you will usually lie down fully clothed.

Jules will use gentle touch on specific access points. The touch is light and should not feel forceful or painful.

Some people feel relaxed quite quickly. Some notice warmth, tingling, movement, emotion, tiredness or a sense of softening. Some do not notice much at first.

All of these responses can be normal.

You do not have to perform relaxation. You do not have to make anything happen. Your job is simply to be there and notice what you notice.

What if you feel emotional?

Sometimes people feel emotional during or after body-based work.

This does not mean anything has gone wrong. It can simply be part of reconnecting with the body.

If this happens, we keep the gentle touch allowing the nervous system to work through the emotion, our nervous system will not let us experience something we cant deal with, it would feel okay to just allow it.

You can pause, speak, rest or take time afterwards if needed.

You are always allowed to say what you need.

Why are some sessions held in small groups?

Group sessions up to 3 people also bring together greater energy, which creates deeper faster healing.

Group does not mean exposed.

You are not expected to share deeply personal information in front of everyone. You can still have your own experience, your own space and your own process.

For some people, being in a small group can feel reassuring. It can remind them that they are not the only person looking for support, rest or reconnection.

How often should you attend?

This depends on you.

Some people book a one-off session to experience Spinal Flow and see how it feels. Others choose a series of sessions because they want more consistent support.

Jules may suggest options based on what you share, but the choice should always feel clear and pressure-free.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Your body, lifestyle, budget and needs all matter.

After the session

After your session, you may want to drink some water  and notice how you feel. It is recommended to go for a gentle 5 minute walk.

Some people feel calm or sleepy. Some feel more ease in their body.

Try not to overanalyse it.

Your body will continue processing the experience afterwards for around 3 days.

Final thoughts

Your first Spinal Flow appointment does not need to feel scary or mysterious.

There are no contraindications with Spinal Flow.

You stay clothed.

The touch is gentle.

You can ask questions.

You can go at your own pace.

You do not have to know exactly what your body needs before you arrive.

The first step is simply giving yourself permission to try.
